The Captains of the Men's, Ladies and Village club sections commenced their Captains’ years by completing the “Driving in” ceremony on the afternoon of Sunday 25th March 2018.
The first to drive in was the new Ladies Captain, Jesmond Poot-Masters who was accompanied onto the first tee by members of Ladies Committee.
She then downed the tradition alcoholic shot in one before successfully striking her ceremonial tee shot down the 1st fairway at Puttenham Golf Club.
Next to take up the challenge was Village Captain Simon Brundan who again struck the fairway with the longest drive of the ceremony.
Finally it was the turn of Terry Smith the new Men’s Captain who was accompanied onto the tee by his grandchildren.
Terry proceeded to down his alcoholic shot and then with a fine tee shot made it 3 from 3 in hitting the first fairway.
The ceremony was preceded by the usual sale of drive in pegs, whereby the members could place these anywhere on the first hole to guess where the drives would finish.
Each winner won a bottle of champagne and the winners were:
Men's Captain Drive – Andy Bayes
Ladies Captain Drive – Kim Machin
Village Club Captain Drive – George Woods
The Prize giving for the morning Pot Pourri Competition also took place in the clubhouse after the drive in and the spoils went to the team of Margaret Forgan, Darren Murray, Ian Carter and Joel Tudor Owen who won with a score of 127 points.
We wish a very successful year to all of our new captains.
