On Saturdays PGA Professional Dean Lintott runs a successful Junior Academy that focuses on juniors of all ages and abilities.
Our aim is to produce juniors who can successfully complete a round of golf to the best of their ability, whilst abiding by the rules of the game and exhibiting accepted etiquette, but also gaining maximum enjoyment from the game. Lessons are focused around three points: Etiquette, Swing & Skill.
The Junior Academy utilises the Junior Golf Passport scheme, which is the national structured learning programme for children aged 6-12 years, endorsed by the PGA. This multi-layered programme progresses a complete novice golfer into a junior golfer ready for membership at a golf club.
In April 2019 the Golf Foundation relaunched the Junior Passport and Puttenham Golf Club was one of the first to get involved. This exciting new program includes progressive skills testing across all playing disciplines, where coach and student can work together as the young golfers improve week-on-week through the Passport’s pages. Coach and child can ‘stamp’ the Passport as each new technique is learned.
A further new area focuses on developing ‘Skills for Life’, including an understanding of sportsmanship; while the ‘Milestones’ section is where boys and girls can record ‘first golf lesson’, first par, first birdie, first handicap, favourite hole, favourite golfer and more as their appreciation of the sport grows.
At Puttenham Golf Club, we feel that junior golf is very important. From past experience we have found that it is important the pupils do not feel intimidated, and we recommend working through a set structure. This means that juniors in the same group will all be of a similar standard. Keeping the groups smaller also improves the quality of teaching and safety.
If your son or daughter, or any of their friends, are interested in learning the whole game of golf in a fun-filled but structured environment, please call in to the Pro Shop, call 01483 810277 or email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be happy to give you more information on the Academy.
